Overview:

We are seeking a Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance (SETA) Cloud Engineer to join our team in support of a government research funding organization dedicated to investing in high-risk, high-payoff research programs to tackle some of the most difficult challenges of national security.

The successful candidate will support the government leadership with cloud engineering and administration including overall system operation, optimization and management, while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a Requirements Review Report of the enterprise cloud environment to factor in stakeholder needs, new/evolving requirements and recommendations to address requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of a Project Execution Plan for Government-approved requirements.
  • Support the overall administration of the enterprise cloud environment to include account management, usage management, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating the cloud infrastructure environment.
  • Coordinate with research program managers to transition completed research program artifacts (data, algorithms, etc.) to the enterprise cloud environment to support transition efforts, storage, data sharing, and technical demonstrations.
  • Research cloud-focused solutions for the organization’s user needs and propose technical requirements for Government consideration.
  • Assist with compliance assessments, resolving issues, verifying certification and program compliance, and support remediation strategies in support of maintaining Authority to Develop/Operate (ATD/ATO).
  • Document standard operating procedures
  • Assist with dashboards and reports measuring performance, compliance, and risks of IT investments.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Hands-on experience with one or more major enterprise cloud service providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience in managing cloud accounts, user access, resource provisioning, cost/usage monitoring, and environment maintenance.
  • Skilled in maintaining and updating cloud-based systems, including networking, storage, compute, and security controls.
  • Experience transitioning applications, data, and research artifacts (e.g., datasets, algorithms, models) into enterprise cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud security practices and compliance requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, RMF, or other government/industry frameworks).
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and dashboards for performance and compliance reporting (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or third-party tools).
  • Ability to produce standard operating procedures, technical reports, and system documentation for stakeholders and auditors.
  • Experience gathering requirements, aligning solutions with stakeholder needs, and supporting technical demonstrations.
  • Ability to research cloud-based solutions, evaluate options, and recommend technical approaches.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in cloud engineering, cloud administration, or cloud solution support.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting government R&D organizations (DARPA, IARPA, ARPA-E, etc.).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates) for automation and repeatable deployments.
  • Scripting/programming experience (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and integration tasks.
  • Knowledge of data sharing, analytics, and machine learning workflows in cloud platforms (to support transitioning research artifacts).
  • Prior experience supporting ATO/ATD processes, compliance assessments, audits, and remediation strategies in government or highly regulated environments.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
