Dr. Lee Knauss is a seasoned technical executive with deep roots in both government and industry, known for his ability to take pioneering technologies from concept through prototype to operational deployment. His career spans more than two decades of leadership in research and development, engineering management, and business strategy. From leading the commercialization of magnetic imaging tools in the semiconductor industry to establishing cross-agency transition frameworks at IARPA, Lee’s journey reflects a profound commitment to innovation and operational excellence. His work has supported national security missions through advanced technology development, with notable impact in circuit analysis tools and directed energy systems.
Lee’s vision is rooted in advancing technology through robust research and development while ensuring structured transition planning to achieve real mission outcomes. He firmly believes that innovation must be purpose-driven, bridging the gap between cutting-edge discovery and tangible impact for the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD). With a systems-level mindset and an emphasis on building high-performing interdisciplinary teams, Lee has cultivated a culture of integrity, technical rigor, and agility in every organization he has led. In his current role as Director of Engineering and Science at Barone Consulting, Lee is focused on growing the firm's technical footprint and delivering impactful solutions to the IC and DoD. He leads a multi-disciplinary team supporting contracts across the IC, while driving strategy, capability development, and innovation. His role is defined not just by technical leadership, but by fostering a collaborative and mission-focused environment where engineering excellence thrives. Lee is also actively involved in mentoring rising technical leaders and expanding the firm’s influence in national defense innovation efforts.
